Translating what you are reading

Translation works in every reader. It shows the translated text and reads it aloud in that language, so a multilingual learner can meet the same material as the rest of the class.

Turning it on

Tap the globe in the reader toolbar and choose a language, either from the grid of flags or the full list. Playback stops when you switch, and you press play to start again in the new language.

What you see

A panel appears above the player with the translated text, with the current sentence and word highlighted as they are read. You can drag its edge to make it bigger or smaller. The voice changes to one that speaks the language you chose.

How long it lasts

Translation applies to the session rather than being saved to the item. Mote remembers the last language you used, so turning it on again is quick.

Translation uses the same player as ordinary reading: see Reading aloud on iPhone and iPad.
