Writing with the Writer

The Writer is a place to write inside Mote, with word suggestions as you type and the option to hear your own writing read back. The Writer is free to use.

Starting a document

Tap New Doc on the Add tab. Your work saves as you go, and the header shows the word count, an estimated reading time, and when it last saved.

Word suggestions

Suggestions appear in a bar above the keyboard. Tap one to insert it, or tap the speaker beside it to hear the word first, which helps when a student is not sure of a word they are reaching for. Suggestions are generated on the device.

You can change the prediction language from the toolbar, switch suggestions off, or change how many are offered.

Hearing your writing

Use Read Aloud in the toolbar to hear the whole document, or to read from where the cursor is. Reading your own work back is one of the quickest ways to catch a sentence that does not run properly.

Dictating instead of typing

Tap the microphone to dictate. What you say is added at the cursor when you finish. Dictation is part of the paid plan: see What is free and what needs a plan.

To change the typeface or text size while you write, see Making reading comfortable: fonts, themes and text size.
