Share Mote Translator hours with a group

You can share a pack of Mote Translator hours with a chosen group of people: a department, a team of interpreters, the staff at one school in your district, or the colleagues at your business. You make a group, add people by email, and assign the pack to it. Everyone in the group can then run Translator sessions on those hours.

It takes about two minutes. Everything happens on the Translation hours page at translator.mote.com.

Which of these are you?

The steps are the same for everyone. What changes is which packs you can buy, who pays, and who can use a pack before you assign it.

Whoever you are, you can move any pack you own to a group, or back again, at any time.

Step 1: Buy hours

  1. Go to translator.mote.com, sign in, and click Translation hours in the header.
  2. Under Buy hours for personal or group use, choose a pack. School admins buy school packs under Buy hours for your org, lower on the page.
  3. Fill in the checkout and pay by card.

You come back to the Translation hours page with a Payment received message. The new hours appear within a minute and last 24 months.

School admins can also pay by invoice or purchase order. See Mote Translator hours for schools and districts.

Step 2: Create a group

  1. In the Groups section, click New group.
  2. Give it a name your team will recognize, such as EL Department, and click Create group.

The New group dialog

You are the group's first member, so you can use its hours too.

Step 3: Add people

  1. Next to the group, click Members.
  2. Paste email addresses into the box, separated by commas, spaces or new lines, and click Add. For a long list, click Upload a CSV instead. Any column of email addresses works.

Pasting email addresses into the Members dialog

You can add people who don't have a Mote account yet. They can use the group's hours as soon as they sign up with that email address.

To take someone out, click Remove next to their address.

Step 4: Assign the pack to the group

  1. In the Hours added table, find the pack and open the Available to menu.
  2. Choose the group.
  3. Click Move pack to confirm.

The pack's remaining hours move with it, and only members of the group can use them. In a hurry? Choose New group… from the same menu to create a group and assign the pack in one go.

What your group sees

Group members see the shared hours on their own Translation hours page, with the group's name and who shared them. Nothing else changes for them: they start a session as usual.

A group member sees the hours shared with them

When someone starts a session, Mote Translator uses their hours in this order:

  1. packs assigned to a group they are in;
  2. their school's hours that are available to everyone;
  3. their own hours.

Good to know

  • A pack goes to one group, whole. To give two groups their own hours, buy two packs. One group can hold any number of packs.
  • Groups control access, not amounts. Anyone in the group can use the pack's hours until they run out. There are no per-person limits.
  • Use the address people sign in with. Membership is matched to the email address of the person's Mote account. If your staff sign in with a different address from the one they email from, add the sign-in address.
  • Deleting a group returns its packs to where they started: Available to all for a school admin's packs, Just me for your own.
  • School groups stay inside your school. Adding someone from another organization to a school group does not give them your school's hours.
  • If all of a school's hours are assigned to groups, a teacher who isn't in any of them sees No translation hours available to you when they start a session. They can ask their admin to add them to a group, or buy hours for themselves.
  • If you leave your school, any pack you shared with everyone at it goes back to Just me, and stays yours.
  • School admins see the school's balance broken down by group, plus each teacher's sessions and hours for this month and last, in the Organization hours section.
  • The free trial hour can't be shared.
