Mote Translator hours for schools and districts

A school or district can buy Mote Translator hours for its staff. There is no subscription. You buy hours in packs. Each pack is available to every adult at your school, or you can give it to a chosen group of staff, for example to roll Translator out one department at a time.

Packs and prices

Pack USD GBP EUR AUD CAD
750 hours $999 £799 €799 A$1,249 C$1,249
5,000 hours $4,999 £3,999 €3,999 A$6,249 C$6,249

On the Translation hours page, prices are shown in your own currency if it is one of these five, and in US dollars everywhere else. Hours last 24 months from the day they are added.

One translation hour is one hour of live translation into one language, so 20 minutes into 3 languages uses 1 hour. Conversation mode and captions on their own count one for one. For more on how hours are counted, see Mote Translator hours and pricing.

How teachers use the school's hours

A new school pack starts as Available to all: every adult at your school can use it. When a teacher starts a session, Mote Translator uses hours in this order:

  1. packs given to a group the teacher is in;
  2. the school's hours that are available to all;
  3. hours the teacher bought for themselves.

Giving a pack to a group of staff

To control who uses a pack, give it to a group:

  1. On the Translation hours page, go to Organization hours.
  2. Under Groups, click New group and name it, for example EL Department.
  3. Click Members and paste the staff's email addresses, or upload a CSV.
  4. In the pack's Available to menu, choose the group and confirm.

Only members of the group can then use that pack, and its hours are never used by anyone else. A pack goes to one group whole, so to give two groups their own hours, buy two packs. You can move a pack back to Available to all at any time. For the full walkthrough, see Share Mote Translator hours with a group.

Buying hours

By card

A school admin can buy a pack by card:

  1. Go to translator.mote.com and sign in with your school admin account.
  2. Click Translation hours in the header.
  3. Under Buy hours for your org, choose a pack and pay by card.

The hours appear in your school's balance within a minute.

By invoice or purchase order

Email support@mote.com with your school or district and the hours you need, and we will raise an invoice. The hours are added to your school's balance as soon as the invoice is raised, so teachers can start using them while the invoice is being paid. Send the purchase order itself to orders@mote.com. For more on purchase orders, see Can I pay by Purchase Order?

Bought by a member of staff

Staff who aren't admins can also buy any pack, paid by card and billed to them, not the school. A 750 or 5,000-hour pack they buy starts as shared with everyone at your school. The pack stays theirs to manage: they can keep it for themselves or give it to a group instead. If they leave your school, the pack goes with them.

What the school admin sees

In Organization hours on the Translation hours page, a school admin sees:

  • the school's balance, in hours and minutes, broken down into hours available to all and each group's hours;
  • each pack added to the school, with the hours left, its expiry date and who it is available to;
  • the school's groups, with their members;
  • each teacher's sessions and hours used, for this month and last month.

When the school runs out

Hours are checked when a session starts, never during one, so a session that has started always runs to its end. If it goes past the school's balance, the difference comes off the next pack the school buys. A group's hours are never reduced this way.

A teacher who tries to start a session after the school's hours run out sees No translation hours left. If the school still has hours but they are all given to groups the teacher isn't in, they see No translation hours available to you. Either way, they can ask you to add hours or add them to a group, or buy hours for themselves.

Who can use the school's hours

Adult members of the school. Adding someone from outside your school to a group does not give them the school's hours. Students who are minors cannot use Mote Translator.
