Why the Mote Sidebar looks different in Google Forms
In Google Forms, the Mote Sidebar doesn't show the Read aloud or Select text to translate buttons. That's because Read Aloud and translation are built into the Form itself. Once a teacher turns them on, every question and answer gets a sound button. Students click it to listen, or click and hold to see and hear a translation in their own language.
Turning on Read Aloud and translation for a Form
You'll need the Mote Chrome Extension and a Mote Unlimited or school plan. Students only need the Mote Chrome Extension installed; they don't need to be logged in or have a paid plan.
- Open your Form in edit view.
- Click the Mote button at the top of the Form.
- Turn on Text-to-speech.
- Turn on Allow translation if you want students to be able to translate.
- Click Add text-to-speech.
To check what students will see, open the Form in Preview.
