Help! My Mote audio recording quality sounds muffled or choppy
Mote makes it easy to record audio through your computer or mobile device, and we try to maintain the highest quality in the recording and distribution of your audio. Most of the time, issues with audio quality will be caused by problems with your hardware - i.e. with your computer or mobile device.
If you have been experiencing audio quality issues with your Mote recordings, here's a troubleshooting guide.
Is audio quality always bad, or only sometimes?
ALWAYS BAD ->
Most likely the issue is with your hardware microphone or with the connected microphone. Check by making a recording with another type of software, e.g. www.loom.com
If the recording is equally poor with other software:
- Restart your computer and check for software updates.
- Consider using an external microphone instead of the built-in one for better quality.
SOMETIMES BAD ->
1. Check Your Environment:
Make sure you are in a quiet, non-echoing room.
Avoid areas with background noise.
2. Check your hardware
Is your computer or phone 'randomly' connecting to a bluetooth microphone or headphones? Check your computer or phone audio settings* to confirm.
3. Adjust Your Microphone Settings:
Ensure that your microphone level is not too high (to avoid distortion) or too low (to avoid inaudibility).
* Here's how to access these settings:
Chromebooks: Go to Settings > Sound
Macs: Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sound
PCs: Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar > Open Sound settings
