How can I add an audio file into a Google Form?

You probably already know that Google Forms does not support embedding audio files for a quiz or listening assessment. However, there are two good options for you to consider if you already have audio to embed:

- Creating a YouTube video from your audio and embedding that in your Google Form

- OR using the Mote Chrome Extension to upload audio, then add this as a link inside your Form

Let's look at these two options in detail:

Option 1: Create YouTube videos from Audio and Add to Google Forms:

  1. Open your preferred video editing software.
  2. Import your audio file into the project.
  3. Add a background image or video to accompany your audio.
  4. Export the project as a video file in a suitable format like MP4 or WMV.
  5. Upload the video file to your YouTube account.
  6. Once uploaded, embed your YouTube video within your Google Form by clicking 'Add video' to your question.

Option 2: Upload your audio to Mote and embed in your Form

1. Install the Mote Chrome Extension.

2. Open the Mote Chrome Extension and click 'Upload'.

3. Upload your audio file - the maximum file size is 5 Mb, which should be fine for recordings up to about 10 minutes in length.

4. Once uploaded, grab the Mote link and insert it into the Question Description field.

Watch the video below to see the end to end process. One important thing to remember is that your students will need to have the Mote Chrome extension installed in order to listen to your audio inside the quiz, otherwise they will see a link and will listen to the audio on the Mote website.

Which option is best for you?

If you are confident using Video editing software, and familiar with uploading to YouTube, then that may be the best option for you - because YouTube videos are natively supported within Google Forms.

If you're looking for the simplest solution, especially if you and your students are familiar with Mote, then using Mote's upload feature may be the best option.
