Deploying Mote for Assessments

Introduction

Mote for Assessments (MfA) is a solution designed to support districts using Mote’s assistive technology tools within an examination environment, specifically on a stand alone secondary Chromebook. If you would like to deploy this solution in your district, and you have questions, please email support@mote.com.

MfA features two required components

1) The MfA Progressive Web App (PWA)

2) The MfA Chrome Extension

The instructions below explain how to install and activate MfA on managed Chromebook devices.

Deploying the Mote Kiosk PWA

Step 1: Add the PWA as a kiosk app

1. Sign in to the Google Admin console (https://admin.google.com) with an administrator account.

2. Go to: Menu → Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Kiosks.

3. (Optional) On the left, select the organizational unit (OU) for the devices.

4. Click the yellow + Add button and choose Add by URL.

5. Enter the URL: https://kiosk.mote.com

6. Click Save.

Step 2 (Optional): Set the PWA to auto-launch

1. Go to Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Kiosks.

2. Next to Auto-launch app, open the drop-down and select: https://kiosk.mote.com

3. At the top, click Save.

Setting up the Companion Extension

Step 1: Add the companion extension

1. In the Kiosks list, click the row for https://kiosk.mote.com. → A side panel opens with details for the kiosk app.

2. Scroll all the way down to the Extensions section.

3. Click Add extension.

4. Select Add from Chrome Web Store.

5. Paste the following extension id into the Search by ID field - ddfeaadlmddmchbegmogngcikligmnhd

6. Click Select.

7. The extension will appear under Extensions in the side panel.

8. Click Save.

Test the result

If correctly installed, the following should be observed:

Devices in this Organization Unit can run https://kiosk.mote.com in kiosk mode.
The companion extension is force-installed automatically and linked to the kiosk app.
When selected, the Mote for Assessments kiosk app should load successfully.
