What is Mote's highlighter feature?

The Mote Highlighter lets students mark important text with customizable colors on any webpage or document. Everything they mark is saved automatically to My Annotations, so they can come back to it later.

The Highlighter is available to users with a paid Mote account, including School tier customers.

FAQ:

How do students use the Mote Highlighter?

Students will need to have the Mote Chrome Extension installed and have an Unlimited account to use the Highlighter. It is found in Reading mode in the Mote Sidebar.

Do students need a paid account?

Yes. Students will need a paid account to access the Highlighter along with other new Mote features. Having a paid account as a teacher will not give your students access to the Highlighter.

Where are my highlights stored?

Highlights are saved automatically to My Annotations, which you will find in the Mote dashboard side menu. They are grouped by the page they came from, each with its source link and date, and the whole set is searchable. Any note you attached to a highlight is stored with it.

Highlighting with the 'vocabulary' label also sends that word to your personal vocabulary list, in My Vocab > Lists, where it can be used in Flash Cards, Matching Quiz and Sentence Star.

Can I add a note to a highlight?

Yes. Each time you make a highlight you have the option to type a note to go with it, for example why the passage matters or something that will help you remember it. Notes are always attached to a highlight, so you cannot leave one on its own.

Your notes appear alongside the highlights in My Annotations, and they are carried across when you export a page's highlights to a Google Doc.
